this row of cottages in Lancaster have always intrigued me
I've sketched out the composition on canvas from photos
the sky is my first job then the roof tiles
I like to start at the top and work down

the colours in the stone work are important
working from left to right - I'm right handed
the middle cottage is slightly set back so shadows are added to try to create to show this
I love painting houses which are different shapes and sizes
trees add some depth to the composition
the finished painting of Golgotha Village Lancaster
historical records show this area had connections to the Lancashire witches so I've added a couple of items to suggest this
